The Saltbush Foundation to Future Program celebrated a successful first step with the Newmont Recruitment Day in Alice Springs, attracting 150 local Aboriginal jobseekers who attended to apply for the 30 jobs of all kinds that were on offer.
This event was a great community milestone, highlighting a growing collaboration between Saltbush and Newmont, Protech and ESS, and supported by many local employment providers and stakeholders including DEWR and NIAA.
The recruitment day was meticulously organized by Saltbush who also working closely with at least 50 of the jobseekers well in advance to ensure they were work ready and document-ready. Many of these people have already passed through the interview process and are on their way to taking up positions at Tanami.
Among the many success stories from the event, one stands out: Karen Brown, a determined and ambitious long term Saltbush participant, has been working tirelessly towards her dream of becoming a mining dump truck driver. Her dedication and perseverance paid off as she progressed through the recruitment process, impressing the recruiters and is on track to start at Tanami shortly.
Her story highlights the importance of holistic programs such as Foundation to Future that never give up on empowering individuals and create pathways to fulfilling careers. As Karen steps into her new role, she embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that drives her communities forward. Karen will continue to benefit from the Saltbush Aboriginal Workforce Mentoring Program as her career progresses.
The Saltbush Newmont Recruitment Day is a testament to what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision of creating positive change.
