SEE First Nations Program

The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) First Nations Program is an Australian Government initiative that provides free training in language, literacy, numeracy, and digital (LLND) skills to First Nations eligible Australians. The program helps First Nations people build the skills they need for work and further study.

The Saltbush SEE First Nations Arts and Literacy Project integrates literacy and numeracy learning with art, creative expression and practical life skills. Participants have the opportunity to improve their reading, writing, digital and numeracy skills while engaging in activities that are meaningful and relevant to their everyday lives.

How We Support Participants

Participants can develop skills in:

  • Computer use, touch typing, Microsoft and internet safety
  • Reading, writing, spelling, grammar and resume development
  • Numeracy, including money, budgeting, measurement and time
  • Everyday tasks such as setting up MyGov and Centrelink, online shopping and preparing for a learner driver’s licence

Supported by local mentors, trainer and dedicated men’s and women’s art tutors, participants learn in a culturally safe and supportive environment. The program also incorporates art classes and skill-building activities, where participants can explore techniques such as painting, drawing and printing while strengthening their LLND skills.

Through a combination of practical learning, mentoring and creative expression, the SEE First Nations Arts and Literacy Project helps participants build confidence, strengthen cultural connections and create pathways towards employment, further education and personal goals.
